KVIK Film Productions was founded in 1993 by the film producer and director Pall Steingrimsson and the visual artist Ruri. The company's main emphasis has been on the production of nature, science and cultural documentaries, with the inter relationship of wildlife and human beings often the common denominator.
KVIK documentaries have entered the many fillm festivals among these are; Festival International du Film Ornithologique, Ménegoute, France, the International Wildlife Film Festival, Montana, USA, the Panorama Documentary Film Festival, Scandinavia, the Wildlife Europe, Sundsvall, Sweden and the Festival International de la Nature et du Cinéma, Du Mont-Dore, Sancy,France. A film by KVIK was shown at EXPO 1998, Lisbon, Portugal.
Awards:
The film Eider and Man received a "Merit award for Presentation of Wildlife/Cultural Interrelationship" at the 20th IWWF 1997 in Montana USA, as did the film Little Brother in the North two years later. The documentary Ice Age Horse received III prize In the category "Man and Nature" at Matsalu II Nature Film Festival in Estonia, 2004. The film Solitude received 1. Grand Prix - The Stork Nest Award in the documentary film category at European Environment Festival - Green Wave - 21st Century, in Bulgaria. And at the Ninth International Environmental Film Festival, "Green Vision" in St. Petersburg 2004 the prize for the best film in the nomination: For the Courage in Making an Environmental Film -,was awarded to World of Solitude to: The World of Solitude, KVIK Film Productions, Iceland, for a fascinating combination of beautiful cinematographic images and a strong civil position.
KVIK documentaries have been broadcast by RÚV Icelandic State TV, Channel 2 TV Iceland, YLE Finnish TV, SFINX Inc.Tokyo Japan, TVE Spain, DR Danish TV, SVT-1 Swedish TV, CNDP Belgium and NDR Germany.
